BERLIN MUST DO
- BRANDENBURG GATE
It’s the most famous monument in Berlin and it is known all over the world as the symbol of the city. During the Cold War it was in the east side of Berlin, near the wall which divided the city from 1961 to 1989.
- TIERGARTEN
It is the principal district of the city and it is famous also for the homonymous park that surround it. It is the seat of the Zoo and of the Berlin Victory Column.
- REICHSTAG BUILDING
It is a historic edifice constructed to house the Imperial Diet of the German Empire. After the proclamation of Adolf Hitler it was set on fire and further damaged from air strikes. After the World War II the building was ruined and fell into disuse. Just only after 1956 it was restored.
- EAST SIDE GALLERY
It is the mayor part of the Berlin wall left in original position and nowadays it represents an international memorial to freedom. Here you will find the most beautiful and famous graffitis.
- TELEVISION TOWER
With its 368 meters, it is the tallest building all over Germany and the fourth highest edifice in Europe. In addition to its main functions as the location of several radio and television broadcasting stations, it remains a landmark today, visible throughout the central and some suburban districts of Berlin.
- CHECKPOINT CHARLIE
Checkpoint Charlie was a crossing point in the Berlin Wall situated between the Soviet and American zone. It was designated as the single crossing point (on foot or by car) for foreigners and members of the Allied forces.
It has been one of the most interesting attraction during our holiday, you can’t miss it out!
- MEMORIAL TO THE MURDERED JEWS OF EUROPE
Into the Mitte district you will find this memorial to commemorate the Jewish victims of the Nazi genocide. These huge black blocks and the fluted floor give a strange sense of loneliness and isolation.
The purpose of the projects was to leave in people though its cold structures, the anxiety and the fear of a population to its own erasure.
- BERLIN DOME
It is situated in the Mitte district and it is the main place of cult of Germany.
- POTSDAMER PLATZ
It takes its name from the city of Potsdam, 25km away from the capital, which I absolutely recommend you to visit. This square had a troubled story; during the years of the Weimar Republic Potsdamer platz was the mayor commercial, cultural and transport city centre. Destroyed by the war and dramatically marked from the construction of the wall, the square has been the most ambitious 90s city’s urban project.
Nowadays it is known as the main centre of a new residential and commercial district being part of the main Berlin’s attractions for tourists and becoming the symbol of the new Berlin.
- ALEXANDERPLATZ
It is a square stoically known as the West-Berlin city centre. Originally it was a cattle market and it became very important just after the construction of a station and different general markets. For this reason, Alexanderplatz became one of the greater commercial area around the city. Today there are street markets during festivals and huge shopping centers.
It is the biggest historic monument left in Berlin after World War II. It takes its name from Charlotte, king Frederick I’s wife, to which he dedicated after her death, the entire district and the homonymous palace.
- FIUME SPREA – SPREE RIVER
Strolling though the streets of Berlin you will surely notice the Spree River. This watercourse extend itself for 400km and it crosses the city of Berlin turning its banks into beautiful nature painting.
Along the river sides there is a less touristic and more characteristic area called Holzmarkt where you could relax among music, graffiti art and cafès.
Berlin Zoo is the biggest zoo all over Germany and also the oldest one with its 170 years old. Every year it receives about 3 millions visitors curious to know the rarest species in the world.
Personally I don’t like to go to the zoo because it seems like animals are suffering in that artificial habitat but in this zoo I perceived less this kind of atmosphere. So, the reason why I have appreciated this zoo is for the large space in which animals live and because the Berlin zoo is working with several universities and research institutes to promote the EEP, European Endangered species Program.
- KURFUSTENDAMM – UNTER DEN LINDEN
They are the most popular streets of Berlin. If you want to dedicate to yourself a day of shopping do not hesitate to come here. Along these streets are focused the best fashion shops, above all international franchising but also electronic and sport shops.
- OBERBAUMBRÜCKE

- SONY CENTER
